At what temperature do crappie spawn

How Water Temperature Affect Crappies
The water temperature will also affect the location of the crappies. By knowing how the water temperature affects the behavior of this species, you will be able to figure out exactly where to search for them during the spawning season and throughout the rest of the year as well. It’s obvious that the crappies will be along the shore in the shallows when spawning but now you have a better idea of where you can find them during the other seasons.

Keep in mind that if a cold front moves in or if the season is colder than normal, the spawning can and most likely will be delayed. Any sudden temperature change during the spring will affect how the crappies feed and where they will be found. If the winter is unseasonably warm this will also affect their normal patterns. All of these things are important to know when you go crappie fishing so you can get the most from each and every one of your fishing trips. You will need to change your tactics to match the temperature of the water.

Although the spawning season is said to be during the spring, you can’t know an exact date when it will begin or end. You can judge when the spawning season begins better if you go by the water temperature than you can by looking at the time of year. So as you can see, water temperature is very important.

The more you know about water temperature and how it affects the spawning season and other seasons, the easier it will be for you to locate the crappie. You will find that many of the new depth finders also have the ability to read the surface water temperature. Once you know the temperature of the surface you can estimate what the deeper water will be because it will always be a few degrees cooler. This will help you figure out where to begin your search for the crappies so you’ll know whether to look in the shallows, medium depth or out in the deeper waters.
