The Holy Grail of Crappie Lures

Now the ever forbidden live baits, these have an advantage because they smell like real food. These are great because they give off the scent of an easy piece of meat. Live baits are good when ice fishing because they are slightly warmer that most fish in the area. In the warmer months live bait give of a scent that help attract fish looking for fresh meat. There are lots of reasons that live bait work but these can help when you might have a weak presentation.

First and foremost is the presentation no matter what bait you chose the presentation is so important, unless it’s spawning season where crappie eat everything that will fit in their mouth. One of the best tricks it to put live bait in a tank of water and observe it. Next take your lure and do the same thing in a tank of water. Sounds easy doesn’t it? Well it is not, there are so many factors that you have to contend with you have to keep the lure moving otherwise it looks dead, but if you keep it moving it comes closer and moves faster and it also rises in the water at it comes closer. Knowing these things will help you chose the perfect lure.

No matter what you chose for a lure or even a combination practice is the only answer. And to add insult to injury what you find that works today in one location will not work tomorrow or in any other location. Just a couple last words stay away from fancy scents crappie eat mostly by sight granted scent is important but not so much as presentation.
