The basic crappie fishing equipment you’ll need

If you are fishing in shallow waters or in locations where your line may easily become snagged, try pole fishing instead. This will allow you to fish in brushpiles, over dense cover and with fewer snags.

Basic poles work fine for catching crappie but you will also find crappie-specific poles and rods at many local stores and fishing shops. Spinning reels are preferred over any other but most any type will work with crappie fishing.

Fishing Line and Other Miscellaneous Items

Now that you have the first basics, there are some other things you’re going to need while fishing for crappie. The fishing line you use is important when crappie fishing. Some other extras you want to have in your tackle box are:

An ultralight spinning reel
And extra line-holder reel
Small reel repair kit
Digital fish scale
Fish scaler tool
Fillet knife
Knife sharpener

You might also want to carry other helpful things such as a fishing towel, first aid kit, small marker buoys, small flashlight, signal flares, pocket sized rain suit, maps of your favorite lake and more. These extra items will make your fishing adventures even smoother. The more prepared you are for any and every situation, the better success you will have on your fishing adventures.

Tackle and Bait

Now the next question on your mind is probably regarding tackle and bait. This is the next most important crappie fishing equipment you’ll need when you set out on a fishing adventure. How do you know which tackle and bait to choose for a most successful fishing trip?

When it comes to crappie, simple is best. Split shot in various sizes, slip bobbers in varying sizes and plenty of hooks will do the trick. You can also find jigs in a variety of colors so you can try different ones to see which will work. If you fish in the same area often, you will learn which colors to use each time you go out. You can also bring extra tackle and bait accessories along if you have the room because it’s always better to be overprepared than be stuck without something you need.

With these tips, you know a great deal about the basic crappie fishing equipment you’ll need. Now whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned pro, you can make sure you’re fully prepared for any fishing expedition.
