How to Catch Crappie Fish

If you do not want to purchase the minnows, you can harvest them yourself if you know where to look.  If there is an area where there are boat docks, this is where you should begin your search.  Minnows prefer areas where there is a lot of cover and boat docks are going to offer these minnows plenty of protection.

If the lake you are fishing on does not have any docks, then you can walk around the shore and look for areas that are shaded and that offer some protection for the baby fish.

You are also going to need a minnow net.  When you find a school of minnows, cast out your net and put your minnows in a live fish bucket to use for fishing.

3.       Fish During the Proper Season

If you want to catch crappies then you need to fish for them when you have the best chance of getting a strike.  Crappies are most active right before spawning in early spring.

The males can be found in more shallow waters while the females are going to prefer deeper waters.  Once the fish begin to spawn, you are not going to have as much success at catching them. After spawn, they can still be found, but they are going to be a bit more elusive and they are going to test your fishing prowess.

Fishing before spawning means that the fish are going to be more active and they are going to be in waters that are shallower making them easier to find.  Even though they are going to be more active, you still need to offer them the right bait.  They are not going to strike on just anything.  Fishing in the spring means that shore fishing is going to be just as productive as fishing from a boat.  This is because most of the crappie will be in areas that are shallower.

These great fish can be part of your next fishing adventure when you follow these guidelines and learn to fish for them properly. This can also be a fun way to bring the children out fishing or someone who is new to angling.

If you follow these three tips for crappie fishing you are going to have a better chance at success.  Fishing is a sport and crappie fishing is no different.  Make sure you have the right bait and that you are looking in the proper places to find crappie.  If you catch one crappie, the chances are there are hundreds in the same area!
