How to chose a crappie fishing guide

Fishing is one of the world’s most popular sports and the crappie is one of the most sought out game fish around. Crappie fishing is something that anyone can enjoy regardless of age or skill level. Most people have a favorite fishing spot where they’ve been fishing for years. Perhaps they went fishing with their parents when they were a child or they may have discovered a great place on their own. Either way, it’s somewhere they’re comfortable fishing and where they can go to catch a lot of fish.

Nevertheless, there are many people who move to new areas or who are visiting other places where they would like to try their hand at reeling in a few crappies. In these cases, it would be to your advantage to hire a professional fishing guide to take you out on the water. Normally, you won’t have any problems finding a guide but if you’re visiting a busy location, you may want to make arrangements to ensure they’re not all booked up during the time you need them.

How to Choose a Crappie Fishing Guide

Before you pick the crappie fishing guide that you want to use, there are a few things that you need to take into consideration. Not all guides are the same and doing a little research in advance will make it easier to find the one that suits you the best.

In order to find the best guide, you need to know what type of crappie fishing trip you want to have. For example, do you want to catch a lot of crappies or just the largest ones you can find? Do you want to stay out all day or just a few hours? Are you an experienced angler who simply needs someone to show you around or do you need some help determining what bait to use and tips on how to hook a crappie? The answers to these questions will make it easier to decide which guide would benefit you the most.

Most guide services provide the equipment and you can fish off of their license. This is the best route to go if you’re just visiting because you don’t have to transport your gear and pay for a temporary license. However, if you’ve moved to the area, then you may want to look for a guide that allows you to bring your own equipment. This is something else that you’ll need to consider.

If possible, go out and talk to the guides in person before you make a decision. You can tell a lot about a person when you’re talking to them face to face and this is someone you’ll be spending a good amount of time with. Therefore, it needs to be someone you can feel comfortable around.

Before paying in advance and finalizing the arrangements, find out what happens if you get delayed and can’t make the trip or if the weather is bad and the trip has to be canceled. If you’re only going to be in the area for a few days, you may not be able to reschedule the trip and it would be a shame to lose your money if they don’t give refunds. Some guides will take the situation into consideration and provide a refund of all or part of your money. Others will only allow you to reschedule or you lose the money.

Last but not at all least, research the different guides before choosing one. Find out how long they’ve been in the area, what kind of reputation they have and how much experience they have as a crappie fishing guide. They should be current on all of the latest crappie information and the rules and regulations regarding crappie fishing in their area. The more you find out about the guide, the better choice you’ll be able to make.

If the guide gets annoyed by your questions, don’t have time to talk to you or never gives you a straight answer, this is a sure sign that you need to find someone else. A good crappie fishing guide will be more than happy to answer all of your questions and provide you with their credentials proving how long they’ve been in business and so forth. Many of them even have references you can check on.

Benefits of Using a Crappie Fishing Guide

There are many benefits associated with using a fishing guide when crappie fishing. The main one is that they know the area. They can take you to all the hotspots where you can enjoy a great day of fishing. They usually know which baits will work the best as well and this makes for a more productive fishing trip.

Not only do they know where to go fishing but they also know which parts of the lakes and rivers to stay out of. There are many places that are dangerous and should be avoided when out on the water and when you’re new to the area, you don’t know where these are located. Once you go out with a crappie fishing guide a few times, you’ll know which areas to fish and which ones to stay out of.
