What do Crappie Fish Eat?

*         The crappies seem to be attracted to light so when night fishing, you’ll get the best results if you’re fishing around a dock or pier with overhead lights. You can also use waterproof lanterns with the same great results. The light draws in the baitfish and the crappies move in to feed.
*         Have a variety of baits and tackle with you when you go out so you’ll be prepared for most anything and any mood the crappie happen to be in. This way, you won’t have to head home without getting any bites, making each fishing trip more fun and exciting.

Crappies are one of the most sought after species around because they can be caught by anglers of all skill levels. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced fisherman or a beginner. They’re an excellent species to seek out. You don’t need any special equipment for crappie fishing either, which is another plus. Since they are a small species you can use your regular fishing gear without any problems.

Always remember that the key to successfully reeling in the crappies is having a variety of baits to keep them interested. If you don’t give them something that entices them, they’ll simply ignore it. The best way to start is by choosing something that is similar to their natural food source. This is what they’re use to and expect to see in the waters.

However, in some cases, this may not interest them. Perhaps they have simply eaten their fill of this particular food. When this happens, you need to try something that is not so abundant in the area. It could be that they’re just in the mood for something different and if you’re offering bait that is naturally located in the area but not something easy to get to, they will most likely be enticed to strike. The more you experiment and try different things the more successful you are sure to be.

So try a variety of baits, colors and sizes until you find something that works great for your particular situation. Something that you least expect to work might be the one thing that attract the crappie the most. Above all else, have a fun and exciting fishing trip.
